Whenever you are using a computer or any other similar
device, what terrifies you the most? Most of us will agree for virus attacks on
your computer. This is the nightmare for most of the computer users. We get the
best antivirus software, secure our router and wireless connection and whenever
the computer malfunctions, we get terrified and wonder how to remove virus in
the quickest and the most secured way.
We hardly think about the numerous precautionary measures
that can be taken up to protect the computer from virus attack before it
actually infects our system. Here are some measures that can be taken up to for
better security of our system:
1) Use antivirus software
Install a secure and trustworthy antivirus software to
protect your computer system from any virus attack. Or at least detects and
informs about any mistrusted files. Make sure that the software is genuine and
reliable.
2) Keep an antivirus program updated.
Keep your antivirus program up-to-date for better security.
Today, virus attackers has found an easy way to attack the system’s weak note.
An updated antivirus software has information about all latest virus, spyware
or malware that may attack your system and thus enhance the protection of our
system.
3) Regularly run a whole system scan
You should scan your system at least once a week to keep a
check for virus attacks. Regular scanning helps in better security.
4) Turn on your Firewall
Firewall can enhance the security of your computers over the
internet by controlling the connections. Turning it on can block or permit any
connection on internet as decided by you. It is extremely necessary if you have
any internet connection.
5) Filter you Net Surfing
Make sure that the websites and link that you are surfing are
safe. If you have any suspicion, close the website and run antivirus scan.
Avoid using Internet Explorer. Instead use Mozilla or Google Chrome which is
safer than IE. In case you need to access IE, check that it is the updated
version. Also disable JavaScript for more secured browsing.
6) Open Trusted Email Attachments Only
This is the most common and easiest way for virus spread.
Many Trojans can copy the sender’s name and send infected attachment. Make sure
that you don’t open questionable e-mail attachments.
7) Evade P2P File Sharing
There are many P2P file sharing networks like torrent,
Gnutella and many other which are free and easy accessible, for both users and
virus attackers. Try to avoid using it and if you are, be alert.
8) Beware of internet scams
Many users get frightful calls or email that claim to get
your virus removed from your system. There are many examples of online
technical support scams which not only risks your money but also
jeopardize with your computer security. Watch out for such emails and delete
them as soon as possible.
